Mission Statement
We strive to help writers get to best know their characters! In valuing the story before the story–the background before the story’s starting point–we want to help the writer emphasize the characterization and depth to their characters.
We make the effort to keep an unbiased mind in accepting submissions to encourage a variety of characters from a variety of different communities. We welcome everyone’s submissions for a magazine without judgement, where we hope to support the writer's work of continuing their own characters.
We’re putting together a community of writers who are constantly looking to evolve their writing and expand on their characters. People who always strive for more–more content, more expansions, more connections, more plans.
We’re highlighting literature on the “before” of the characters journey. A scene, or moment, or memory of the character from before their ‘established’ story begins!
Call for Submissions
“Ready, Set–” is a magazine about your character’s ‘before’! What was your character doing before their story started?
This can mean a memory from when they were young.
How they were with their family.
A moment out with friends.
The type of student they were at school.
The year leading up to their motivational beginning.
Maybe a character used in a game that has an unexplored backstory.
Or even an interaction before their story starts by minutes.
The only additional thing we need from you is a synopsis or brief insight on your story the character is based out of! This will need to be at the end of your story in our magazine. Let our readers get to know the character and then introduce the story they come from!
There are no length limits, however we especially encourage those in the fictional and fantastical genres! We’d love to read your ‘before’ of your story! A story that ends at the beginning. Think of it as a promotional magazine!
